Things are heating up now as the event gets closer. Our latest entrant to sign up is Essex lad Dan Walling who will be chasing the honours in the Class 1 (up to 600cc) Pro category on his Honda CBR600RR thanks to his sponsor Matt from JD Services who also supported Dan in 2013 when he was third in the EMRA (East Midland Racing Association) 125 class championship.

Early in the 2014 season in the search for fresh challenges and more track time Dan switched to the two stroke Grand Prix series with great success, winning the 125GP class title in his first year. The following year wasn’t to be and was marred by mechanical issues and a couple of off track excursions resulting in more DNFs than were sustainable for a championship challenge, yet Dan still managed a 3rd place in the 125GP class.

 

At the end of the season Dan was offered a ride on a Yamaha TZ250 v twin by Nigel Palmer and contested the TSGP 250GP and Open classes in 2016, winning the Open class and narrowly missing out on the GP title to take 2nd place following a couple of chain breakages and other mechanical failures which cost him points. Dan also had an outing with the International Classic Grand Prix club as a wild card at the 2016 Mallory Bike Bonanza meeting on another of Nigel Palmer’s bikes, “Betsy”, a Yamaha TZ250L, leading the 250 class his first time riding that bike until running out of rear tyre grip coming home in 2nd.

So far this year Dan has been riding “Betsy”, the TZ250L, being eligible for post classic racing with the Classic Motor Cycle Racing Club and the International Classic Grand Prix series, which he rode at the 75th Goodwood Member’s Meeting and was best 250 and 8th overall. After that he rode at Pembrey with CRMC and was best 250 and even broke the lap record while competing in a 350 class race on the 250 and crossing the line in 5th.

His most recent outing was at Donington Park for the Endurance Legends Meeting, another wild card with ICGP, again winning the 250 class races and breaking the lap record for the National Circuit. Dan followed this success by riding a 1984 BMW R90 with Nigel Palmer and Konstantin Moraglis in the 4-hour endurance race, winning the class by 22 seconds and came 7th overall. Pretty good considering this was his first time on that bike.

Apart from the endurance BMW,  all of Dan’s racing to date has been on two strokes and Moto Time Attack will be his first competitive outing on the his latest bike, a Honda CBR600RR.

Dan says he’s very much looking forward to this new challenge and is very grateful to JDS and Matt Newing for once again supporting this new adventure as well as all the support he’s received over the last 6 years.
